Flooring Conversations > Varying Width Hardwoods

To create a more casual elegance, think about using hardwoods that come in varying widths, usually incorporating 3", 5" and 7" planks. This breaks up the uniformity of the hardwood pattern and can really showcase the natural grain and beauty of the wood.

If I am installing 3" 4" red oak what is the ratio of how much 3" wood I will need and how much 4" wood i will need?

When ordering your hardwood, 43% of the area will be 3" plank and 57% will 4" plank. If your room is 200 sq.ft. you will need s minimum 86 sq.ft. of 3" plank and 114 sq.ft. of the 4" plank. You should allow 5% for waste.
